Hi there I have a four month old daughter and I just went back to work last week.  My daughter has only been in daycare a week and a half and I have a seperate issue every time I pick her up.  I have to know if I'm being an overprotective first time mom or should I pull her from this daycare.

Each time I pick her up she's dirty.  She seems to have diaper blowouts everyday and I know this is an unattended diaper.  She is only four months old and is sleeping for less than an hour a day.  I know she has to have some transition time but they don't do anything to help her if she doesn't sleep she doesn't sleep.  UGH HELP!!!!

How many children are in this daycare?  how do you know the diaper issue is an "unattended diaper?"  I need more info on these 2 things...

Now... in regards to sleep, it is a law that you offer sleep time for children.  I have been out of daycare a few years so don't know what that time frame is right now.  But it at least has to be offered.  Only one hour for a 4 month old doesn't seem right.  However, if there are several children in this daycare, it will be noisy so maybe the baby isn't used to all that noise?  I would ask the daycare provider why your baby is only sleeping an hour.  If it is because of the noise level then suggest music, a fan, anything that makes noise in the room where the baby is sleeping to drown out the noise of the other children.  The sleep issue is a hard one for providers because of all the kids they have.  I only watch one little girl now and she still takes a nap... my own children have woke her up several times because they are too noisy.  She sleeps for 2 hour blocks so it is very hard to keep my kids quiet for 2 hours but I do what I can to make it less noisy for the girl I watch by turning on a fan so she can't hear as easy.

Diaper issue - does your baby have "blow outs" at home?  Some diapers just aren't that good and everytime your child goes there is a blow out.  If your child does not have blow outs I would ask why every single day this is happening at daycare.  How often does the provider change diapers?  I did it every 2 hours UNLESS I smelled a poopy diaper then they HAVE to be changed immediately.  Does your child have a rash on her bottom because of sitting in blow outs???  I can understand that sometimes it is busy and sometimes this will happen but every day???  And if she is sitting in it and getting rashes...TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and I think she can even get in trouble because of that if the laws are still the same....

Is there anything else??  You need to be up front and blunt.  Get a copy of the daycare laws in your area.  You can usually get this at human services then ask for it.  Unless you have a different place where the daycare licensor resides...

1 hour nap is pretty harsh... will she fall asleep in one of the swings.

You may need to give her more time to adjust. She may not be comfortable yet sleeping in a stenge place & not in her own crib or mother's arms. It took my 3 year old son about 3 or 4  weeks to fully adjust to being in daycare. As someone previously mentioned it is the law that they provide nap time. At my son's daycare they do nap (for all age groups) from 1-3pm. They play soft music in the background, cover all the windows & the teachers walk around and help children fall asleep by rubbing their backs. I LOVE his daycare & will recommend it to ANYONE! It is called Language of Love, located in Eden Prairie.

Thank you all for your support!  Lily has now been in a wonderful daycare in St. Paul called Lasting Impressions!  We couldn't be happier.  That other place was terrible and I now have to find out how to report them.  When I pulled Lily out of the daycare they sent me a letter of appology with admission of guilt.  Something needs to be done about this place it is unacceptable and I feel terrible for the other kids there.  Does anyone know who or how to report a daycare?

You should be able to look up the county's website that the daycare is in and be able to report it that way. Otherwise, this link http://licensinglookup.dhs.state.mn.us/ tells you whether the daycare is licensed and if there are any negative reports on it. I'm not sure if you can make reports on it or not.

I'm glad to hear you found a better daycare! I didn't realize how unhappy I was about my previous daycare provider until I brought my son to a new daycare. He's been there over a year, and he can't wait to get out of my arms to play there when we arrive in the mornings.

I am so glad that you pulled your child out...

Here where I live, you can get the name of the daycare licenser and call them directly.  They will give you the necessary papers to fill out... HOWEVER if they are NOT licensed, I have no idea how you would go about reporting in that case.  You can also ask the daycare that you are at now if they know who the licensor is for the area of the old daycare.... they had to go through a licensor to get their license so maybe that will help?
